Orlando Theme Parks Are Rocking and Rolling

To most people, even to Floridians, the mention of Orlando immediately conjures up images of theme parks. Universal Studios, Disney World, SeaWorld, and Legoland all come to mind. In an unprecedented move, all theme parks closed in March due to COVID. So where are we now?

In the recent months, the theme parks have reopened with strict protocols and measures in place to keep guests safe. These include sanitizing frequently, social distancing, temperature taking, and mask requirements.

On a recent Sunday, my husband and I (15-year Floridians), decided to brave Universal Studios. I (nurse by night agent by day) was very impressed! Just out of the garage, before the trek across the bridge, we had our temperatures taken on the forehead (just like entering the hospital). Masks are required at this point and while most were compliant, there were employees with gentle reminders to those who may have forgotten. There were lines to mark social distance and employees to direct you to the turn stiles available so there was no crowding.

What about the parks themselves?? At each ride we went on, there were markings for distance on the ground and people were very compliant. As you got up to the ride, there were employees handing out hand sanitizer. Throughout the attraction there were employees continuously wiping down handrails and other touch points.

Dining was equally as pleasant and clean. Spacing of tables, scan menus, and wrapped silverware were just some of the cleanliness measures observed. The bar spaces were appropriately distanced and comfortable.

Normally, my husband and I will skip the hot and crowded months and wait for “low season”. Although the mask was warm (as was the day), the park was very enjoyable and did not feel crowded. As a nurse, I was very comfortable with the sanitation processes. We cannot wait to return!!

I have nurse friends who have made the rounds to the other parks (with kids) and have similar good news to report! Now is the time to experience Orlando and its theme parks.
